5th of December 2017 – Prescribing Psychotropic Medications in General Practice – Box Hill
General Practitioners (GPs) are often the first point of contact for patients experiencing mental health issues and the most common providers of mental health services. Although GPs commonly see high-prevalence disorders, most will also encounter a range of less common mental health problems, such as psychosis. Medication, a useful therapeutic adjunct, is commonly used as part of the management of mental health-related problems.
Psychiatrists from Conduit Health, a Telepsychiatry and Telehealth service founded in 2014, that aims to deliver specialist health care in an effective, convenient and readily accessible way for the general population, whilst providing additional support for primary care physicians.
• Antidepressant therapy, Benzodiazepines & Antipsychotics: Potential benefits, acute and chronic side effects, and possible dangers including the cardiovascular risks of some medications.
